Kibale National Park is one of Uganda’s top destinations for chimpanzee trekking and primate experiences. Located in western Uganda, the park protects a beautiful tropical rainforest filled with diverse wildlife, making it one of the best places in Africa to see chimpanzees in their natural habitat.
Chimpanzee trekking is the main attraction in Kibale. Visitors walk through the forest with experienced guides and trackers to find habituated chimpanzee communities. Once the chimpanzees are located, you can watch them feeding, calling, grooming, and moving through the trees. The experience offers an exciting opportunity to observe our closest living relatives in the wild.
Kibale is also home to several other primates, including red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys. Bird watchers can explore the forest in search of numerous species, while nature walks provide a peaceful way to experience the park’s rich biodiversity.
For a more immersive experience, travelers can take part in the chimpanzee habituation experience, which allows more time with chimpanzees that are still becoming accustomed to human presence.
Kibale National Park can easily be combined with Queen Elizabeth National Park, where visitors can enjoy game drives and a Kazinga Channel boat cruise.
