Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Welcome to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most remarkable primate destinations. Located in southwestern Uganda, this ancient rainforest is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it an exceptional destination for travelers seeking authentic gorilla trekking and unforgettable wildlife experiences.

Bwindi Primate Safaris offers carefully planned adventures into this magnificent forest, combining local knowledge, experienced guides, comfortable accommodation, and personalized service. Our guides understand the forest, its wildlife, and the communities surrounding the park, helping visitors experience Bwindi safely and responsibly.

Why Visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park?

Bwindi is very different from Uganda’s open savannah parks. Instead of searching for lions, elephants, and giraffes from a safari vehicle, visitors venture into an ancient rainforest on foot in search of endangered mountain gorillas.

The forest is rich in biodiversity, with towering trees, dense vegetation, colorful butterflies, birds, and numerous primate species. The experience of walking through the misty forest and eventually encountering a gorilla family is one of Africa’s most memorable wildlife experiences.

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Bwindi is divided into four main trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo. Each sector provides a unique trekking experience, with different gorilla families, landscapes, accommodation options, and levels of hiking difficulty.

Buhoma is the oldest and most established trekking sector, while Ruhija offers a quieter experience surrounded by beautiful high-altitude forest. Rushaga is particularly popular with serious primate enthusiasts because it also offers the gorilla habituation experience. Nkuringo is famous for spectacular scenery overlooking the forest and distant Virunga Volcanoes.
