Go to Africa Safaris designed this 3 day itinerary for travelers who want to trek mountain gorillas without giving up several days to long road transfers. Instead of the usual eight to nine hour drive from Kampala to Bwindi, you fly by light aircraft directly to an airstrip near the park. This gets you into the forest faster and gets you home sooner, without cutting out any part of the gorilla trekking experience.
This package suits travelers with limited time, honeymooners, business travelers extending a trip, and anyone who prefers to skip long days in a vehicle. You still get a full, unhurried gorilla trek with an experienced ranger guide, just with far less time spent on the road.
This safari runs three days and two nights, starting and ending in Entebbe.
This package includes one gorilla trekking permit and return domestic flights between Entebbe and Bwindi.
Your guide meets you at Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield in the morning for your scheduled domestic flight to Bwindi. The flight takes around one and a half hours and gives you sweeping views over Lake Victoria, the western rift valley, and the forested hills of southwestern Uganda as you approach the park.
You land at an airstrip near Bwindi, such as Kihihi or Kisoro, where your ground guide is waiting to drive you to your lodge, a transfer of roughly thirty minutes to two hours depending on which airstrip and lodge you are assigned.
The rest of the day is free. Check in, have lunch, and relax at your lodge. In the late afternoon, your guide briefs you on the gorilla trekking rules and what to expect the next morning. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
This is the heart of your safari. After an early breakfast, you drive to park headquarters for registration and briefing by 7:00 AM. You are assigned to a gorilla family based on your fitness level, then your ranger led group sets off for the trailhead.
The hike into the forest can take anywhere from thirty minutes to four hours, depending on where the gorillas were last seen. Once you find them, you get a full hour in their company, watching them feed, play, groom, and rest while the silverback keeps a calm eye on the group.
Afterward, you hike back to the trailhead and return to your lodge to rest. You will receive a certificate marking the trek. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
After a relaxed breakfast, you have time to enjoy the lodge grounds or take a short nature walk before your transfer to the airstrip for your return flight to Entebbe.
You land back at Entebbe in time for an onward international connection or a night in Entebbe or Kampala. Your guide sees you off at the airport.
We recommend arranging comprehensive travel insurance before you travel.
Pricing depends on your choice of lodge and the number of travelers flying together. Solo travelers pay a higher rate for the domestic flights, while pairs and small groups share the cost more evenly. Get in touch for a custom quote tailored to your dates and preferences.
Your gorilla permit is included in the price, billed at the official permit rate with no markup added.
To book, we will need your full name as it appears on your passport, your passport number, your nationality, and your preferred travel dates. A deposit is required to secure your permit and your flight seats, since both are limited and booked well in advance.
This safari runs year round, though flight schedules can be more limited in the quietest months, so early booking is recommended. The dry seasons, June through September and December through February, offer the easiest trekking conditions and the clearest flying weather.
Traveling in the wet season brings lower prices and greener scenery, with the trade off of muddier trekking trails and a higher chance of weather related flight delays.
This itinerary suits travelers who want the full gorilla trekking experience on a tight schedule. It trades hours in a vehicle for time in the forest, without cutting any corners on the trek itself.
Go to Africa Safaris is a Uganda based operator with experienced local guides and established relationships with domestic charter operators. We manage the flights, transfers, and permits so you can focus on the gorillas.
