Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest and one of its most spectacular national parks, famous for powerful waterfalls, abundant wildlife, and beautiful savannah landscapes. Located in northern Uganda, the park is crossed by the Victoria Nile, which creates the dramatic Murchison Falls as it squeezes through a narrow gorge before continuing toward Lake Albert.
A safari in Murchison Falls National Park offers excellent opportunities to see elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kob, hartebeest, hippos, and many other wildlife species. Game drives across the park’s open plains are especially rewarding in the early morning and late afternoon when animals are most active.
One of the highlights is a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. Along the riverbanks, you can see large numbers of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and colorful waterbirds. The cruise provides a unique perspective of the park and is ideal for photography.
Visitors can also hike to the top of Murchison Falls, where the power of the Nile can be seen as millions of liters of water rush through the narrow gorge. Bird lovers can enjoy spotting species such as the shoebill, African fish eagle, and kingfishers.
Murchison Falls National Park can be combined with Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Kibale National Park, or other destinations on a longer Uganda safari.
