Aberdare National Park

Aberdare National Park offers a different side of Kenya with misty forests, waterfalls, mountain scenery, elephants, buffaloes, and diverse wildlife.

Aberdare National Park | Go To Africa Safaris

Aberdare National Park is a refreshing change from Kenya’s open savannah parks. Located in the central highlands, the park is covered by dense forests, bamboo, moorlands, waterfalls, and misty mountain slopes. The cool climate and green scenery give it a completely different atmosphere from destinations such as Maasai Mara or Amboseli.

The forest is home to elephants, buffaloes, leopards, hyenas, bushbucks, waterbucks, and several species of monkeys. The thick vegetation can make wildlife harder to spot than in an open grassland park, but that is also part of the adventure. You never quite know what might appear between the trees.

Water is an important part of the Aberdare landscape. Streams and waterfalls run through the highlands, while natural pools and waterholes attract animals. Some lodges in the area are particularly well placed for watching wildlife come to drink, allowing visitors to observe animals without spending the entire day on a game drive.

The higher sections of the park are covered with moorland and unusual vegetation, creating a landscape that feels almost completely different from the forests below. The views can be spectacular when the mist clears, with deep valleys and distant hills stretching across the horizon.

Aberdare National Park is a good addition to a Kenya safari for travelers who enjoy forests, mountain scenery, hiking, and quieter wildlife experiences. It can be combined with Mount Kenya, Lake Nakuru, Samburu, or other destinations in central Kenya.

Go To Africa Safaris can arrange tailor-made Aberdare National Park safaris including game drives, guided walks, accommodation, transportation, and experienced local guides.
