Lake Mburo National Park is a small but beautiful wildlife destination in western Uganda, making it a convenient stop for travelers heading between Kampala and the southwestern part of the country. The park is known for its rolling hills, open grasslands, acacia trees, wetlands, and the lake that gives the park its name.
A safari in Lake Mburo offers the chance to see zebras, impalas, giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, elands, hippos, and several other animals. It is also one of the few places in Uganda where visitors can see large numbers of zebras and impalas in the same area. Leopards and hyenas are also present, although they are more difficult to spot.
One of the best things about Lake Mburo is the variety of ways to explore it. Game drives are a popular choice, but visitors can also take a boat trip on Lake Mburo to see hippos, crocodiles, and birds along the shoreline. For something different, guided walking safaris and cycling experiences offer a chance to experience the park without being inside a safari vehicle.
The park is also a great place for bird watching, with many species found around the lake, wetlands, and woodland areas. Its location makes it especially useful for travelers planning a longer Uganda safari, as it can be visited on the way to destinations such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, or Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Lake Mburo National Park may be smaller than some of Uganda’s other parks, but its peaceful atmosphere, accessible location, and variety of activities make it well worth adding to a Uganda safari.
