Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet your Go To Africa Safaris representative and private driver-guide. You’ll be transferred to your hotel in Kigali and given time to relax after your journey.
Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short city tour or visit a local restaurant for your first taste of Rwandan cuisine.

After breakfast, begin your Rwanda adventure with a guided Kigali city tour.
Explore some of the city’s highlights and learn about Rwanda’s history, culture, and remarkable transformation. You may also visit local markets and craft shops before continuing east toward Akagera National Park.
The drive takes you through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside, with rolling hills, farms, and rural communities along the way.
Arrive at Akagera in the afternoon and check into your lodge.

Wake up early for your first wildlife adventure.
After breakfast, head into Akagera National Park for a morning game drive. The park is home to elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, and many bird species.
With luck, you may also encounter lions, leopards, and other predators.
After lunch, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. This is a wonderful opportunity to see hippos and crocodiles close to the water while enjoying the park’s spectacular scenery and birdlife.
Return to your lodge in the evening.

Enjoy breakfast before leaving Akagera and beginning your journey toward southern Rwanda.
Today is mainly a scenic travel day as you cross the country from east to southwest. Enjoy views of Rwanda’s famous rolling hills, tea plantations, villages, and countryside.
Arrive near Nyungwe Forest National Park in the evening and settle into your lodge.

Today brings another exciting primate experience.
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your chimpanzee trekking experience.
Walk through the ancient Nyungwe rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzees. The forest is also home to several monkey species and an impressive variety of birds.
Once you locate the chimpanzees, you’ll have time to observe their natural behavior before returning to the starting point.
Spend the evening relaxing at your lodge.

After breakfast, depart Nyungwe and drive toward Lake Kivu, one of Rwanda’s most beautiful destinations.
The journey offers spectacular views of green hills, tea plantations, and rural communities.
Arrive at Lake Kivu and check into your accommodation. Spend the afternoon relaxing beside the lake or choose an optional activity such as a boat trip, kayaking, or a lakeside walk.
Enjoy a peaceful evening overlooking the water.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before continuing north toward Volcanoes National Park.
The journey takes you through some of Rwanda’s most scenic landscapes. As you approach the Virunga Mountains, the landscape changes to lush green hills and volcanic peaks.

Your guide will also help you prepare for tomorrow’s gorilla trekking adventure, including the recommended clothing and equipment.

Today is the highlight of your Rwanda safari.
After an early breakfast, travel to the park headquarters for a briefing from the park authorities. You’ll then begin your mountain gorilla trek through the beautiful forests of Volcanoes National Park.
The trek can take several hours depending on where the gorilla family is located. Once you find them, spend precious time observing these remarkable animals in their natural habitat.
Watch them feed, play, rest, and interact with one another while maintaining the required distance and following the park’s conservation guidelines.
After your trek, return to the lodge for a well-earned rest.
Overnight: Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, head into Volcanoes National Park for another exciting primate experience: golden monkey trekking.
The endangered golden monkeys are found in the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains. Spend time watching these playful primates as they move through the forest.
In the afternoon, enjoy a cultural experience in the local community. Depending on availability, you may learn about traditional Rwandan life, music, dance, crafts, or local food.
Return to your lodge for your final evening in the Volcanoes region.
