Uganda Safari Packages: What Is Included?
When you start looking at Uganda safari packages, you will quickly notice that the prices can be very different. Two companies may advertise a similar number of days and destinations but give you completely different quotes.
The reason is simple: a safari package is made up of many different services. Accommodation, meals, transport, park fees, activities and guide services all contribute to the final price.
Knowing what is included before you book helps you compare packages properly and avoid unexpected expenses during your trip.
Accommodation
Accommodation is usually one of the main things included in a Uganda safari package.
Depending on the package you choose, you may stay in budget camps, comfortable mid-range lodges or luxury safari lodges. The location also matters. A lodge close to the park or trekking area may cost more than one further away, but it can save you time on the road.
Before booking, check the accommodation details rather than simply accepting a description such as “comfortable lodge.” Ask for the names of the properties or the accommodation category.
Also check whether the price is based on single, double or twin occupancy. Solo travelers may pay a supplement because they are not sharing the room and some transport costs with another traveler.
If you are comparing luxury and mid-range options, the accommodation can make a noticeable difference in the overall safari price.
Meals and Drinking Water
Many Uganda safari packages include meals, especially when accommodation is provided on a full-board or half-board basis.
Depending on the itinerary, breakfast, lunch and dinner may be included. Some packages also provide packed lunches on days when you will be away from the lodge for several hours.
However, do not assume that every meal is automatically included.
Ask whether drinks, bottled water, alcoholic beverages and snacks are included. In some packages, bottled drinking water is provided during drives, while in others you may need to pay for it separately.
If you have special dietary requirements, tell the safari company before the trip so the lodges can make the necessary arrangements.
Transportation and Safari Vehicle
Transportation is another major part of a Uganda safari package.
For a road safari, the package will normally include transport between destinations and game drives in a safari vehicle. Depending on the operator and package, this may be a 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof or another vehicle suitable for the planned route.
The driver may also act as your safari guide. A good guide is important because they know the roads, wildlife and park rules and can make the game drives much more interesting.
Ask whether fuel, driver’s accommodation and the driver’s allowance are included in the quoted price. These are sometimes included but should be confirmed.
If your itinerary involves domestic flights, airport transfers or charter flights, check whether those are part of the package or charged separately.
Professional Guide Services
A safari guide can have a huge influence on your experience.
Your guide will normally handle the driving on safari, help you navigate the parks and share information about wildlife, landscapes and local communities. They can also help you understand what to expect from different activities.
Some specialized activities may involve additional guides provided by the park or activity organizers. For example, gorilla and chimpanzee experiences follow specific rules and are guided by authorized personnel.
When comparing packages, find out whether a professional English-speaking guide is included and whether the same guide will stay with you throughout the trip.
Park Entry Fees
National park entry fees are another cost that may be included in a Uganda safari package.
If your itinerary includes Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, Kibale Forest or another protected area, the operator normally factors the relevant park fees into the package price.
This is important because park fees can add a significant amount to the overall cost, particularly when you are visiting several destinations.
Ask your safari company to confirm which park fees are included and whether the quoted price covers all travelers in your group.
Safari Activities and Permits
Your package should clearly state which activities are included.
A typical wildlife safari may include game drives, while an itinerary around Murchison Falls could also include a boat trip on the Nile. A Kibale itinerary might include chimpanzee trekking, while a trip to Bwindi could include gorilla trekking.
These activities do not all cost the same.
Some activities require permits or advance reservations. Gorilla trekking and chimpanzee experiences are good examples. If your package includes one of these activities, confirm whether the permit is already included in the price or whether it will be paid separately.
Do not assume that an activity mentioned in an itinerary is automatically included. Ask for clarification before making a deposit.
What Is Usually Not Included?
This is just as important as knowing what is included.
Depending on the company, a Uganda safari package may not include:
- International flights to and from Uganda
- Visa fees
- Travel insurance
- Personal shopping and souvenirs
- Alcoholic drinks
- Laundry services
- Tips for guides and lodge staff
- Optional activities not listed in the itinerary
- Personal expenses
- Extra accommodation before or after the safari
Some packages may also exclude airport transfers or domestic flights, so always read the quotation carefully.
If something is not clear, ask before booking rather than discovering the additional cost once you are already in Uganda.
Why Packages Have Different Prices
It is normal to find different prices for what appears to be the same Uganda safari.
One company may use budget accommodation while another uses luxury lodges. One itinerary may include private transport, while another involves sharing a vehicle. One may include more activities or better-located accommodation.
The number of travelers also affects the price. A private safari shared by several people can cost less per person than a private trip for one traveler.
The best way to compare prices is therefore to compare the entire package, not just the final figure.
Look at the number of days, accommodation, meals, transport, guide services, park fees and activities. This gives you a much clearer picture of the value you are getting.

There is no single Uganda safari package that is perfect for everyone.
A budget traveler may prefer simple accommodation and spend more time exploring the parks. A couple celebrating a special occasion may choose luxury lodges and private transport. Families may prioritize comfortable accommodation and a relaxed itinerary.
What matters is knowing what you are paying for.
